The hiking book: Hiking the San Francisco Bay Area
The distance: 9 miles
The CityGirls rating: 9

Our good friend TheSailor came to visit just after the new year and wanted a hike to the ocean that wasn’t too hilly. We didn’t have to think too far back for just the right trail, so off we went to Point Reyes to revisit the Bear Valley trail and Arch Rock.

We recently acquired a new camera that we were itching to put through its paces, and the clear day, brilliant water, verdant greenery, and artfully posing heron helped out.

After what is on its way to becoming our favorite hike, we stopped in San Rafael for some of our favorite post-hike food with limeades, plantains, and yumminess at Sol Food.

Ease of following designated hike: 10. Having just done this hike, it was an easy no-brainer.
Best season to hike: We found another day of cool weather and sunshine at the turn of the year. The rest of the nation is frigid, we’ve got 60 degrees and sunshine.
Our hike time: 3.5 hours.
Solitude: 6. The trail was pretty quiet, but there were a lot of people out at Arch Rock jabbering away.
